SET UPS

The set up

The set up is key in wrestling as well as in life. One may as well walk into a brick wall if one doesn't set things up. In life working construction if you don’t put your cones out( set up ) you get ran over. In life going to school and educating yourself(set up) for later, if you don’t life runs you over. In life if you don’t put your seat-belt on (set up) you go through the front windshield if you get in a wreck. In life if you learn how to tie your shoes(set up) you go far and fast!!!!!!!!!!! If you don’t, you have scares on your knees elbows and hands maybe face and a chipped tooth to.!!!!!!

So back to the set up and hoped you enjoyed the set up for the set up. In wrestling Set Ups are a key component to defeating ones opponent. The set up is used to get your opponent out of position or in a particular position on the mat orienting you at optimal position/posture . weather it is riding the boundary line or getting into a spot where you can blast double leg him without taking him out of bounds. A set up can be almost anything. But lets break it down a bit or broaden. Any intended movement gesture etc. that’s intended to get the opponent out of position and posture to take control of the opponent is a set up.

There are many set ups we use, most self explanatory (see also demonstrations).

head tap/ chin tap

Shoulder pops

Head push down

Leg slap

Steering wheel

Tie up control

Hand control set up

Arm drag/ re-drag

Post by/ elbow pass

Head chucks

Russian/ re-russian

Over under-pumble

Football

Monkeys

Duck under

West sider

Throw by

To name a few of highly workable set ups. Again (see demonstrations )..

Now after you have got the knowledge and completely understand a set up as well as fluent in many a set up. You can the begin to chain your set up. For example: head tap chain head shuck chain double leg chain half nelson; To be completely explicit about it. As you can see it was a two chain set up with a continuation of other chains/moves to complete the action desired. But as you increase in your ability to control your body the lag between each move will shorten to nothing. When the lag has been eliminated between the moves than it is considered a chain. MASTER THE MOVES BEFORE YOU SEEK TO CHAIN THE MOVES OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE A PILE OF SLOP.

CHAIN

1. something resembling chain: a series of things or people linked or joined together for some purpose.

2. sequence of related events or facts: a sequence of facts or events that happen one after the other and are connected in some way.

LAG

1. period between events: a period of time between one event and a related event

SLOP

1.poor-quality
